OUR WORK

Safeguarding the Rights of Women and Girls

Humanity for Women and Children in Kenya (HWC-Kenya) is committed to safeguarding the rights of women and girls by promoting social justice, protection, and dignity, particularly for those from disadvantaged and vulnerable backgrounds. Central to this work is advancing equitable access to essential social services, including education, healthcare, and human rights protection for women and children.

Through this initiative, HWC-Kenya supports young girls, many of whom are survivors of gender-based violence (GBV) to access and complete secondary education. Beyond addressing their immediate educational needs, the program creates a pathway for healing, empowerment, and long-term resilience.

By providing financial support, mentorship, and a safe and nurturing environment, HWC-Kenya helps rebuild confidence and restore hope. At the same time, the organization works to reduce barriers that limit access to critical services, ensuring that women and children can fully realize their rights and live with dignity.

Through this holistic approach, HWC-Kenya is helping to break the cycle of poverty and violence, empowering girls to become self-reliant and active agents of change in their communities.

HEALTH INTERVENTIONS

Humanity for Women and Children (HWC-Kenya) is dedicated to improving health outcomes for vulnerable and underserved communities by implementing targeted health interventions. Recognizing that health is a fundamental human right and a cornerstone for development, HWC-Kenya focuses on addressing critical health challenges that disproportionately affect women, children, and marginalized populations.

HWC-Kenya’s health programs emphasize:

  1. Maternal and Child Health:
HWC-Kenya works to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates by providing access to prenatal care, safe childbirth practices, postnatal support, and education on family planning. The organization collaborates with healthcare providers to ensure that women and children receive quality healthcare services, even in remote areas.
  2. Community Health Education:
HWC-Kenya empowers communities with knowledge about disease prevention, hygiene, nutrition, and mental health through workshops, campaigns, and grassroots engagement. These efforts aim to build healthier communities by fostering awareness and encouraging proactive health-seeking behaviors.
  3. Access to Essential Services:
The organization partners with local governments and health institutions to improve access to essential medical services, vaccinations, and life-saving treatments. Mobile clinics and outreach programs ensure that even the most isolated populations can receive necessary healthcare.
  4. Advocacy for Health Equity:
HWC-Kenya advocates for policies that address systemic barriers to healthcare access. This includes campaigning for improved healthcare infrastructure, affordable medications, and equitable resource distribution.
  5. Addressing Specific Health Challenges:
The organization targets pressing health concerns such as malnutrition, communicable diseases, sexual and reproductive health issues, and non-communicable diseases through specialized programs tailored to community needs.

By integrating a holistic approach to health, HWC-Kenya not only addresses immediate healthcare needs but also works toward sustainable health systems. Through capacity building, partnerships, and community involvement, the organization ensures that its interventions lead to long-term, impactful change in the health and well-being of the communities it serves.

Mental Health and Psychosocial Support

At Humanity for Women and Children in Kenya (HWC-Kenya), we recognize that mental health is an essential component of individual, family, and community wellbeing. Mental health challenges affect people of all ages and backgrounds, yet stigma, discrimination, and limited access to services often prevent many from seeking the support they need.

Our Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) programme works to promote mental wellbeing, prevent mental health disorders, reduce stigma, and improve access to care and support services, particularly among vulnerable and marginalized populations. We provide community awareness and education, psychosocial support, counseling referrals, support groups, and advocacy initiatives that encourage open conversations about mental health and emotional wellbeing.

Through storytelling, community engagement, youth empowerment, and partnerships with health providers and local stakeholders, HWC-Kenya creates safe spaces where individuals can share their experiences, access support, and build resilience. We believe that every person deserves dignity, compassion, and the opportunity to thrive regardless of their mental health condition.

Our approach is guided by the belief that seeking help is a sign of strength, that recovery is possible, and that no one should face mental health challenges alone.
